Master of Business Administration (MBA)
BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The MBA programme of Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, was introduced in the year 2000, to address the business challenges of a world becoming a “global” village and therefore needing “global” managers.
The programme run into difficulties on issues of accreditation and affiliation which have since been resolved.
The programme is now accredited by the National Accreditation Board and affiliated to the University of Ghana Business School.
The degree of MBA is awarded by the University of Ghana.
PROGRAMME PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES
The MBA programme is especially designed to address the training needs of middle level personnel in organizations, both public and private.
The rapid technology changes in our modern world demand new managerial skills and creativity to fashion out best practices and new orientations in today’s managers who need to understand the dynamics and complexities of modern business in the context of developing countries like Ghana.
The programme is the outcome of the college’s determination to provide high level skills and competencies to today’s professional business executives seeking global partnerships. It is expected that by the end of the programme, students will be able to:
- apply skills and concepts learned in their understanding and practice of business
- analyze strategic business problems and provide solutions
- develop and implement successful business plans and ideas
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Entry into MBA programme shall be according to one of the following categories:
Category A
A good first degree with, at least, a 2nd class lower and at least two (2) years of post qualification experience.
All applicants shall undergo a selection interview.
PROGRAMME COMPONENT/STRUCTURE
The MBA programme is run on a modular basis over a period of 24 months. Two modules are taught concurrently, one over a period of six weeks of teaching followed by two weeks of revision and Examination. Students attend two-three hour lectures per week.
The other module is taught over 12 weeks. Students attend one three-hour lecture per week.
The two modules being taught concurrently enable students to complete three modules in three months each time.
NUMBER OF MODULES TO BE TAKEN
Students take twelve (12) core modules, at least, five of which should have been completed and passed before they enter into their areas of specialization.
AREA OF SPECIALISATION
Students entering unto their areas of specialization take three (3) core courses and one elective course in one of the following areas of specialisation;
- Human Resource Management
- Marketing
- Finance
- Accounting
- Project Management
- Entrepreneurial Management
- Management Information Systems
PROJECT WORK
There is a project work which attracts six (6) credits and is compulsory for all students, students are assigned to supervisors who provide guidance in writing and presenting their project work.
RESIT EXAMINATIONS
These will be taken at the end of every quarter, ie. After every three modules taken.

GRADING SYSTEM DEFINITION
The grading system used is the same as the University of Ghana’s Grading system for Graduate programmes.

REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION
Award of Degree
A Master of Business Administration degree shall be conferred on a candidate who has satisfied all examination requirements and has passed in his/her project work. Students shall be eligible for graduation on successful completion at least 54 credits hours, including all core courses. A student’s overall grade point average shall not fall below 3.00
Transcript of Academic Records
A transcript of each passed or failed module will be issued free to all students at the end of the module.
Transcripts of academic records will be issued to all students at the end of their programme upon the payment of the appropriate fees.
REGULATIONS GOVERNING ASSESSMENT
Students shall submit themselves to continuous assessment through participation in seminars, discussions and other forms of class work.
Eligibility for Examination
An MBA student who makes less than 30 contact hours of lectures and seminars in any module will not be eligible to sit for the end-of-module examination.
Student in Good Standing
A student in good standing shall be one whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is at least 3.000 (Grade B).
Scheme of End of Module Examination
The Examination shall consist of
- A written paper at the end of a module
- Project Work at the end of the course work.
MBA students are required to submit proposals for their Project work at the end of the first semester of the second year for the approval of their supervisors.
FACILITIES:
Well stocked library with internet connectivity; overhead projector for teaching; air conditioned Lecture Theatre.
FEES:
- Fees for the Programme $6,000
- Fees to be paid upon admission $1,125
- Rate per module $375
- Registration on admission GH¢50
- Registration for each course GH¢20
Mode of Payment:
- By Bank Draft
- By Cheque (students who issue Dud Cheques will be surcharged an amount of GH¢50.00.
