Bachelor of Science in Midwifery

 

Wisconsin’s Department of Midwifery under the School of Nursing offers a four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Midwifery aimed at preparing students for careers as midwives.

Graduates may go on to acquire further experience and qualifications to enable them to become specialists in various areas of antenatal and postnatal care.

Teaching methods:  A variety of teaching methods are used, including lectures and discussion, small group work and practicals.

 

Study options: Regular, evening and weekend classes are available.

Entry Requirements

 

WASSCE & SSSCE Applicants

Applicants must have credits in six courses (C6 for WASSCE/A-D for SSSCE) in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and three (3) elective subjects in Science, General Arts or Home Economics subjects with an overall aggregate of 36 or better for WASSCE/24 or better for SSSCE. International students who do not pursue Integrated Science may replace it with Biology, General Agriculture or Chemistry. Senior High School applicants will enter the programme at level 100.

 

Other Applicants

a. Holders of Diploma in Midwifery Certificates

Holders of Diploma in Midwifery certificates from recognised institutions with a minimum GPA of 2.50 and a pass in the licensure examination conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana will be admitted at level 300.

b. Holders of Registered Midwifery Certificate

Registered Certificate Midwives will enter at level 200.

c. Holders of Registered General Nursing Certificates

Registered nurses who apply to pursue the BSc Midwifery programme would be admitted at level 200.

 

International Students

International students with non-English results must have result slips translated into English. The results must meet the set standards for the programme as established by the National Accreditation Board and the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana (NMC). In addition, applicants must be able to speak and write English fluently. As part of the NMC’s requirements for nurses, international students must have the WASSCE/SSSCE equivalent for admission into the programme.

Note: Students who need further English lessons can enroll into our English Proficiency programme.

 

Access to BSc Midwifery

Wisconsin has received accreditation from the Nursing & Midwifery Council to offer a 6 week Access Course for health practitioners who wish to join the BSc Midwifery programme.

 

Who can apply:

• Registered Nurse/Health Assistant Clinical (HAC/NAC) personnel

• Registered Nurse Assistants (Preventive) – RNAP

Successful candidates would be admitted at Level 100.
